Aerobic Threshold
and Weight Loss

Your aerobic threshold is important for you to know about when you are resetting your metabolism and turn it into a fat burner rather than a fat storer.

Let me go over what it is for you.

Aerobic exercise is exercise done that uses oxygen to create energy. It is usually lower intensity like light jogging and it is done for longer periods of time.

Anaerobic exercise is the opposite. It does not use oxygen to create energy. It is a higher level of intensity than aerobic exercise. Because of this, it is usually done for shorter periods of time.

Both these two exercises have drastically different effects on healthy, natural weight loss. Each requires a different strategy to get the most out of it.

So what determines whether an exercises is aerobic or anaerobic? We already know that aerobic exercise is less intense and anaerobic exercise is intense. So at what point does an aerobic exercise go from aerobic to anaerobic?

That is what the aerobic threshold is.

The aerobic threshold is the point where the intensity level of an exercise turns the exercise from aerobic to anaerobic exercise.

Here’s an example. Let’s say you walk. That is a level of exercise that is low enough to be aerobic for you, then you speed up a bit.Let’s say that you are doing a light jog at 2 miles per hour. You keep increasing the speed of your jog/run.

There will come a point within your body that your nervous system will stop using oxygen and start using sugar for the creation of energy. That point is the aerobic threshold.

But what does this have to do with weight loss?

The importance of this is that for some people, they need aerobic exercise to lose weight and also need it to reduce belly fat in particular.

If someone has excess cortisol, intense exercise, anaerobic exercise they will keep using sugar to create energy and not oxygen. If this goes on too long, you will be over training.

Endurance athletes will cycle their training between very intense exercising and then very low exercising that is all below the aerobic threshold.

If you want to learn one method of determining your aerobic threshold you can go to best exercise to lose weight.

Some people who actually need to do aerobic exercise because of their particular fitness and health level. But they join an “Aerobics Class” and it is is a group class. It also lasts for about an hour. If this person’s fitness level is low, then they may think they are doing aerobic exercise but the level of exercise is too high for them and as a result this person is not getting the benefit of aerobic exercise and it is only because they did not know what their aerobic threshold was.
