Alkaline or Acid????

by Ashley
(Rhode Island)

I have done so much research on alkaline and acid foods. It seems no one can agree on what is actually acid or alkaline.

The common foods are always in agreement:

Veggies & most fruits belong to Alkaline and meats, dairy, grain, processed foods belong to Acid.

I just want to eat as healthy as I can and was wondering how you could convince me your calcualtions are correct when it comes to Acid and Alkaline.

THANK YOU
AShley

THANKS!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! This actually cleared up alot for me :)

I do have one other question. Is the higher the number with a + beside it mean its more alkalizing? And if the higher the number with a - beside it the more it is acidic?

What the + and - means for alkaline acid foods...
by: Yegyan

Hi Ashley,

Thats a good question you are asking and I have had the same question.

First of all, I am not going to try and "convince" you or anyone. I can simply tell you how the numbers are derived.

In a beaker or container you can have a substance and measure its ph.

However, in the body, that substance can create a different ph in the blood. Lemon for example is acidic but it causes the blood to get more alkaline when processed through the digestive process.

I am only in interested in the general ph of the blood and the interstitial fluids. That is what these number represent. They are from the book by Robert and Shelly Young.

Lastly, go with what your body tells you. Most of the alkaline foods are so readily available. Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocadoes, lemon, lime, etc.

I have never worried about who was "right" or "wrong" simply because there are foods that are alkalizing that are so available I could not see the problem.

Watermelon is an example of a food that is alkaline in some lists and acid in others. When it comes to weight loss, which is all I am interested in this site, I encourage people to limit their fruit consumption anyway unless they eat it by itself in the morning as the first meal.

Since most lists have a lot of similarities, and you are very particular about it, then dont eat the foods that you are not sure about.

Trying to reach optimal health is a gradual process. There going to be times you eat acid foods and that is not the end of the world. If you make the majority of your food alkalizing (including fluids) you will increase your health.
