Belly Fat On Women

"Belly fat is unwanted regardless of what gender posses it.
Belly fat on women, however, is different than it is for men."

Hello,

There is almost a social acceptance of belly fat on a man. Even an expectation sometimes.

For women, however, it can result in panic, desperation and unhealthy weight loss choices which lead to worse results and then apathy.

This is a problem since belly fat is not just aesthetically displeasing, it is dangerous to health. It causes high blood pressure, acid reflux, insulin resistance, heart disease, cardiovascular disease and death. You can read more about the dangers of belly fat here ...

Belly Fat On Women: The Basics

My page on “Belly Fat” discusses the basic information regarding getting rid of belly fat. Though this page discusses belly fat on women, the basic information applies.

To summarize:

Belly fat is comprised of two fats: The fat under the skin and the fat within the abdominal cavity called visceral fat. Visceral fat surrounds the internal organs such as the liver and the heart.

This internal fat is dangerous fat. It prevents the organs from working correctly. It is also what starts the metabolic syndrome which is also the cause of the #1 killer of Americans.

This internal fat is primarily caused by the stress hormone cortisol. So learning how to reduce cortisol levels while still living a fun and productive life is the key skill to learn.

Ultimately, the type of exercise that reduces belly fat fastest is intense bursts of activity like sprints. However, if the adrenals are weakened, these have to be recovered first before doing ANY intense exercise.

Most people will have to do very low intensity first and then wait for the plateau and other markers are achieved and then phase into high intensity.

I have a complete protocol for reducing belly fat that incorporates these factors.

Belly Fat On Women: The Difference

belly fat on women

For belly fat on women there is another factor that is less known and this throws a curve ball at them which leaves them and their dietitians and trainers baffled.

There is a syndrome that women can go through and it results in unexplained belly fat or abdominal fat.

It is an established fact that stress hormones (including cortisol) produced mainly by and/or through the adrenals.

Cortisol is also the source of abdominal fat. So the health and care of the adrenal glands are a key factor in reducing belly fat over the long-term.

Women, unlike men, have ovaries that produce very important hormones, estrogen and progesterone. When women go through menopause or have a hysterectomy, the ovaries stop producing these two important hormones.

But since these hormones are important another gland takes over and produces them for her. It is the adrenal glands that take over as the "backup gland" to the ovaries.

This is where the adrenals starts to get stressed or get MORE stressed and produce excess stress hormones such as cortisol. This can cause adrenal fatigue or exacerbate adrenal fatigue and keep the downward spiral of weight gain.

Belly Fat On Women: How This Is Expressed

This is usually described to me by a woman who had her fat deposits either on her hips and thighs most of her life and then during and after menopause the fat deposit “moved up” to include being deposited in the midsection.

Another way this story is told to me is that they were thin all their lives and then “suddenly” out of no where, the fat started getting stored in the midsection.

Guess what the common advice they get for losing belly fat on women? Do INTENSE exercise!!!

This produces more cortisol!!! More cortisol produces more belly fat/intra-abdominal fat!!!

Yes, ultimately the intense exercise is what is needed but first, the reasons for the excess cortisol need to be addressed first.

Recovery Is Needed

Often times that involves recovery. The body needs to adjust and recover from whatever stress it is receiving first. When that is done, the body has to strengthen itself to be able to exist with a new way of doing things - like existing without ovaries.

I use a diet and exercise protocol to help the body adjust first. This stage can be quite profound for people because they have only been focused on the stimulation part of diet and exercise.

What most are not used to, is how to optimize rest and recovery. What a lot of people do not know, that it is during rest and recovery that the body rebuilds itself. If the diet, lifestyle or workout routine does not support this recovery, then results will plateau and the belly fat will resume is ponderous expansion despite the increase in exercise and reduction in calories.

You can read more about losing belly fat on women in my book or schedule a free consult with me to learn more about you and your body and how to get rid of belly fat for good and forever.
