Body pH

"The Acidity of your body can be the
cause of your inability to lose weight."

Your body pH is one of the keys to your survival and health. It is also a hidden source of fat and poor health. This page is about how your body's pH causes excess fat to be stored on your body.

Your Body’s Health Dashboard

Foods That Speed MetabolismX

There are 5 things you nervous system is constantly measuring.

  • Concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide
  • pH of the internal environment (or body pH)
  • Concentration of nutrients and waste products
  • Concentration of salt and other electrolytes
  • Volume and pressure of extracellular fluid (extracellular fluid is the fluid that surrounds and bathes the cells)

When any of these 5 things go too extreme in one way or another, poor health results. Weight gain and extra fat is also another symptom of this.

I want to specify that I am referring to excess fat as a symptom.

If you are asking if there are other symptoms, yes there are. I am only focusing on weight loss and fat loss. Weight loss in my consultations is viewed as a symptom of poor health and imbalance.

Body pH is a Fundamental Common Denominator

It has been in recent years through the work of Dr. Robert Young that body pH has been looked at as a vital measurement for health. It has been discovered that disease cannot exist in an alkaline environment. It can only exist in an acid environment.

This holds true for cancer as well.

Dr. Young has shown that when the pH balance of the body is brought back to normal, health resumes. One of the byproducts if restoring alkalinity from an acid state is the reduction of body fat.

How Are We Getting Our Body pH Imbalanced?

The human body will thrive in a pH level of 7.63. A lower number means the body is too acidic. If the number is too high, the body is too alkaline. The problem encountered today is too much acidity.

I don’t want to get into a lot of scientific and technical detail but the modernization and processing of our dietary intake, combined with a modern lifestyle causes excess acid to be formed in the body.

Processed foods that do not contain the micro-nutrients needed to alkalize the body, a sedentary lifestyle with very little activity, lack of sleep, mental and emotional stress, all create acid.

When you look at the subject of “Antacids” you will see it is a very high selling item. A huge industry. That is because the problem with our health in society today is excess acidity. Not excess alkalinity. Any imbalance is poor but the imbalance is towards acidity.

Corrosive Nature of Acidity

This acid I am writing about is corrosive. It can burn holes in the body parts. Ever heard of an ulcer? That, very simply stated is a hole burned in the wall of the stomach or digestive tract. That is caused by the excess acid.

Also in veins and arteries, excess acidity can and does corrode the walls of the vein and artery. In response to this, arterial plaque is formed by the body to protect this corrosion.

When the hP Balance of the blood restores and becomes more alkaline, the plaque is not needed and dissolves.

Body pH: Causes of Acidity

Stress is one good source of over acidity. Getting too little sleep is another reason and also a contributing factor to stress. You can read about this in "Sleep Deprivation and Weight Gain".

Processed foods. Most food that overweight people eat lowers the pH of the body - creates acidity. Cooked foods, and all the foods or types of foods in the Foods to Avoid. There’s no reason to go crazy and stop eating all these foods altogether but starting to make more and more of the food you eat Alkaline Foods, you will start to reap the benefits. If you eat only Alkaline Foods you will get pretty explosive benefits and results across the board. It depends on what you want to achieve.

Intense Exercise. Intense exercise creates a lowered pH. Intense exercise is pretty much going to be anaerobic exercise. This is exercise that is above your maximum aerobic level. Your intensity of exercise has two general ranges. The low intensity is aerobic (uses oxygen to create energy or do work). As the level of intensity increases there is a point we all have (it is our own point) where the exercise stops being aerobic exercise and becomes anaerobic exercise (not using oxygen to create energy or do work).

Anaerobic exercise lowers the pH of your body temporarily. But if you do not balance this exercise with recuperation and nutrition that alkalizes, your body will remain acidic and your body will breakdown the more you exercise. It will break your muscle down and cause injuries. In the sports training arena, this is called over-training. The gains from exercise plateau. This is simply an imbalance of breakdown and build up. The excess acid has caused more breakdown and too little build up.

Toxic substances. There are synthetic hormones, chemicals, sweeteners, flavorings, colorings, etc in much of our processed foods now. Also the environment we live is simply has more toxins in it. Our skin is extremely porous. We don’t just ingest substances through foods. We also bring them into our bodies through our skin. Drugs and alcohol of all kinds are toxic and the body’s chemistry reacts to it by getting more acidic.

Cascading Effect of Body pH Imbalance on Health and Weight Loss

Body pH imbalance and excess acidity has a cascading downward spiral effect your body fat. Here’s why: one of the main reasons a person cannot lose fat is that the body has a problem with creating energy.

A healthy and fit person can convert fat, protein and carbohydrates to energy. A person who cannot lose fat can only use sugar to create energy. One of the ways to change this for you is to supply your cells with enough water to cause the cells to demand more fuel sources (fat, proteins, and carbohydrates).

But what causes the cells to get more water? Minerals. Specifically sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium and trace minerals.

When these minerals are present in sufficient quantity and in sufficient balance, the cells get hydrated and the cells can start using body fat for energy instead of only sugar.

But when the body pH becomes too acidic, guess how your body balances the pH level? It leeches minerals out of the cells and bones to restore pH balance.

When the minerals are gone, dehydration results. This results in more acidity, and more dependency on sugar. This dependency causes body fat to be stored instead of broken down.

There is more. Above, where I talk about intense anaerobic exercise causing acidity? There is more that is does to contribute to fat and poor health. Intense exercise that is anaerobic inhibits the oxygen content of the body. That is what anaerobic means - without oxygen.

Just like water, oxygen is NEEDED for the cells to use fat, carbohydrates and protein for energy production. When oxygen is absent, the cells will ONLY use sugar for energy. This anaerobic pathway to energy creation creates acidic byproducts. Ever heard of lactic acid? lactic acid is a by product of anaerobic exercise.

It is a cascading chain reaction. By understanding these pathways to health and illness you also can understand the pathways to natural weight loss and the pathways to low energy and excess fat.

The current mantra of our society with regard to weight loss is a no-pain no gain exercise mentality and a calorie control diet mentality.

The result is the US being the most obese country in the world and its number one killer being obesity-related heart disease.

What should it be?

Get more oxygen into the cells on a regular basis.
Get the cells hydrated.
Balance the pH levels.

Body pH: Alkalizing the Body

Part of my weight loss consulting is getting the client to alkalize their blood through diet and lifestyle changes. It is very simple but the implementation is the part that you can have difficulty with just because it is different from the normal western culture of life.

Get more sleep. Just like you should feel energy when eating food. You should feel more energy after sleeping at night. Sleep deprivation causes a lowered body pH.

Proper hydration. You need to get minerals to be hydrated. The best source of these minerals, bar none, is raw vegetables that are rich in these minerals. These raw vegetables are also rich in the best kind of water. The water in living food has an electrical charge that causes the body pH to balance. Water alone over the long-term will not be enough. If you have been dehydrated and start drinking water, you will get the initial benefit from the rebalancing of the needed water levels of the body. But after this point drinking too much water will cause dehydration because it will make you urinate all the minerals out of your body!

That is why you sometimes feel on a hot day that the more you drink water, the more thirsty you get.

The minerals are missing.

Eat food that is alkalizing. This is such a simple solution.

Make the majority of your exercise (in terms of investing time) aerobic. How do you tell if it is aerobic? You can read Best Exercise To Lose Weight. I don’t want to scare you into not doing anaerobic exercise. It is actually very helpful in quick weight loss. But it has to be done the right way so as to get the benefits of intense exercise without the drawbacks.
