Build Lean Muscle for Natural Weight Loss

When you build lean muscle, you speed up your natural weight loss. When your lean muscle is preserved or even built while losing your fat, the effect is very dramatic. You shape completely changes and your energy levels go to a higher plateau. You feel healthier and you prolong your health. When you build lean muscle after establishing a good nutrition plan your body loves you. You body wants to have a lot of lean muscle.

However, when someone is trying to lose weight, the thought of building muscle is a bit hard to comprehend because it gives the idea that you will gaining size and weight if you gain muscle. Especially since muscle is heavier than fat.

However, what is completely misunderstood is how little muscle an overweight person has. Especially in very over-weight or obese individuals. It is always shocking to people to see how little muscle they really have.

Ironically, the fact is the lack of this muscle and its use is a major contributing factor to excess fat and weight.

You do not want to make building lean muscle to come before nutrition. It should come afterward. As you get used to new eating patterns that provide nutrients the body needs then building lean muscle should be the next step. By taking care of nutrition you will already begin to develop lean muscle growth.

So why build lean muscle to lose weight?

Fat tissue and muscle tissue are very different. Understanding this may be very helpful to you.

Muscle Uses Energy and Fat Doesn't

Let's look at what they do for you.

What does muscle do for you? I think that's pretty obvious. Every movement you make, your beating heart, your diaphragm helping you breathe, etc. muscles are used. When it comes to weight loss, unlike fat, there really is not a situation involving excess muscle.

Because of this vastly more important function of muscle, it is far more sophisticated than fat. Fat is created from excess and unused glucose. But muscle on the other hand, uses a myriad of nutrients to keep it alive and healthy. It uses, oxygen, glucose, ,vitamins, minerals, lipids (fat), amino acids and enzymes to thrive.

Muscle also adapts quickly in response to its stressors. The muscle cells get bigger when it is worked out. It multiplies and generates its new cells based on where it is needed. If you start to bicep curls, your muscle cells in your bicep grow larger. It is specific to your needs.

Fat is not specific. It is like jello that just grows all over. It is non-specific. That is why doing sit ups do not get you six pack abs. You cant target fat loss. You can only target the total fat %.

Muscle is mainly filled with water and nutrients. It is connected to the nervous system and gives and sends information. Muscle has its form of intelligence and memory. Fat is filled with oils, harmful acids and when broken down to produce glucose, requires much more enegy and work to break down to convert to energy.

Just like you can make your metabolism your best friend in weight loss, lean muscle mass should be your next best friend. Because it is made up of active cells that require fuel and can utilize all nutrients, it increases the demand of the metabolism to utilize all resources to create glucose for it.

Build Lean muscle to add to the efficiency of your metabolism. This is best done in two ways:

  1. Proper nutrition that feeds your muscle and not your fat
  2. aerobic and anaerobic exercise.

And in that order. Remember, nutrition is the soil that everything else grows on. There are many people that exercise without results or with limited results. Nutrition allows exercise to maximize the weight loss results from exercise.
