Coconut oil

by Mike
(San Francisco)

QUESTION

Any thoughts about coconut oil?

My coworker eats it every morning and is convinced its 90% saturated fat content is not bad for you. (And she is not losing weight)

ANSWER

coconut oil is good for you depending on how you get it. Eating the coconut meat will provide the best source of this oil. It is very alkalizing and so is the coconut juice.

Any healthy oil when it has been heated, loses its value.

Taken in its pure form as I described is a great addition to one's diet. But one thing should be known about any oil. Oil is fat and dietary fat is converted to body fat when insulin levels are high. Starches and sugars raise insulin levels. Cortisol also causes insulin resistance so this causes insulin to create food to fat more efficiently.

Good fats consumed with lean protein sources or vegetables is a good combination for regulating insulin levels as well as weight loss as well as health.

Cheers!
