Fiber Supplements for Appetite Control

Fiber supplements are an often overlooked tool to replace using an appetite suppressant. Soluble fiber in particular, slows the digestive process to a degree and increases satiation. Fiber also reduces the surge of insulin that also can contribute to hunger and cravings.

When we eat a lot at one time. Whether it is protein or carbs or whatever, blood sugar spikes. When I say spikes I mean that specifically. There is a level of sugar that your body has that determines if an overdose of insulin will occur or not. Fiber supplements can help tremendously.

If you don’t know what insulin does for you, here’s a little primer:


Insulin

Insulin is a hormone that regulates how much sugar goes into your cells. Your cells need sugar for energy. The sugar in this case is actually called glucose. It is very quickly turned into molecules in your cells that store energy.

When there is excess glucose in the blood, insulin is secreted and prevents glucose from going into the cells.

The problem with insulin is that it has proven to be very inefficient. It acts like a sledgehammer in the sense that it is not secreted in direct proportion to the excess unused sugar. It comes in a slightly delayed reaction and comes in excess and lasts in the blood.

So if your cells need energy and insulin is elevated the sugar that is available is not able to get into the cells. So signals are sent from the cells to the brain to GET MORE QUICK ENERGY.

FIND FOOD THAT IS VERY DENSE IN ENERGY! That is the signal. You can even get the shakes when this happens.


Fiber To Help Regulate Insulin

So when it comes to appetite and fiber, having a lot of fiber in the diet makes sugar release into the blood slower. So fiber helps keep the blood sugar from spiking. When the blood does not spike, you don’t get the insulin flood. So glucose gets to the cells in a regulated fashion and you don’t have drops in sugar and then you don’t get as many cravings.

For myself, I noticed a distinct difference in my desire for sweet, dense foods when I use fiber supplements like psyllium husk and consume foods high in moisture content and fiber, I actually have an aversion to sweet, dense foods and an desire for high fiber, water rich foods.

Take fiber supplements to assist with your appetite. BUT when you take fiber supplements, you need to drink more water.

A last note here is that this is one aspect of weight loss. To get the fastest and most permanent results I suggest not using only one thing to be successful with your natural weight loss. It is best if you have a comprehensive program that addresses your entire lifestyle. The many books and diets out there tell you what to eat and how to exercise but they do not address the hidden sources of sabotage.
