Good Fats
Good fats are essential in natural weight loss. You need to eat them to lose weight naturally! I seem to forget that there are still a lot of people that have the idea that eating “fat” is bad. This is a generalization. I am guilty of forgetting that even though I know something so well, a client will ask me a question that will make me say something like, “Of course you can eat that!” I have to stop and remember that they do not know this. I want to demystify the subject of fat. First and foremost there are good fats to eat and bad fats to eat. Here are the good fats. So there, you have my permission. With the exception of an acute or chronic medical condition, too little of these fats below will PREVENT fat loss. - Any Cold-pressed or stone-pressed oil
- Raw avocado
- Raw nuts
- Raw nuts (soaked overnight)
- Raw coconut and coconut butter
Bile and Natural Weight Loss
Every heard of bile? Bile is a substance secreted from the gallbladder. It serves the main purpose of breaking fats in food down to smaller particles to be used by the body. It is a very powerful weapon to weight loss because it directly metabolizes fat. It IS the substance that breaks fat down. Do you know what makes bile get secreted into the digestive system? If you are afraid of eating fat then I am sure you do not know what releases bile. Fat Releases Bile. When there is a lack of bile in the food/diet, the gallbladder gets weak and atrophies. Fat in the diet also increases the production of lipase which is a fat-digesting enzyme. Here’s what fat does that is not only good, but necessary for a radiant lean body capable of allowing you to experience more out of life. Fat helps a person lose weight. For individuals that are not athletes, or exercise a lot, I have no problem increasing the fat in their diet to 40%. A lot of weight in the overweight is water-logged weight. When bile and fat are present in the digestive tract, vitamins A, D, E and K cannot be absorbed into the blood. Fat is needed for this to happen. Deficiencies in these vitamins are present in people who are on fat-free diets. Other Reasons Fat is Needed
Fats are used as the part and structure of every cell in the body. The nerves and the brain need large amounts of fat to function well. The hormones of the adrenal cortex and sex glands are made of particular kinds of fat. Certain friendly bacteria in the intestinal tract that are very valuable to digestion and therefore nutrient production and absorption need fat in order to multiply. Fat when looked at chemically are very long chains of molecules linked together. Some of these chains have links where it is very easy to add things to it. Some are so linked up nothing else can attach to them. If too much oxygen is added to the links, the fat goes rancid. If hydrogen gets added, the fat gets very solid. The types of fat, or links that allow things to connect to them are the fats that allow other nutrients to combine with them. The fat can transport them and together with them can be used to build the cell structure. The good fats listed above are these types of fats. Any other types of fats do not have any links to allow them to be useful since they cannot connect to anything. So they just get stored. So this is a very very brief primer on good and bad fats and that good fats are necessary for permanent and healthy weight loss. There is an exception. If I find that a person has a weak liver, I cut back the fats until the liver is doing better. This is welcome to the client because one of the things they have a hard time with is eating fatty foods and heavy foods. So anyway, I hope this provides some clarification on the concept of “fat” in the diet.
