Grapefruit Juice Diet
The grapefruit juice diet assures a loss of 10 pounds in 12 days with no hunger. Furthermore, it permits 3 meals per day with a bedtime snack. This juice diet is only intended as a jumpstart for the dieter. Wherever you see the word 'grapefruit', you have the option of eating 1⁄2 a grapefruit or drinking an 8-ounce glass of unsweetened grapefruit juice. For breakfast: Grapefruit + 2 eggs prepared anyway you choose + 2 slices of bacon. For lunch: Grapefruit + salad with the dressing of your choice + all the meat you wish. For dinner: Grapefruit + salad with the dressing of your choice OR a red or green veggie prepared with butter/spices + meat or fish + 1 cup of coffee or tea. For your bedtime snack: 1 cup of skimmed milk. If you are at any time considering a diet like this one, you need to keep a few things in mind. One: You should transition into it. Two: Your body is going to be missing out on other important nutrients not mentioned in the diet. Three: It is totally arbitrary. There is no science behind it. You can eliminate the all meat and replace with broths and green drinks and do fine. The meats and dairy are silly. They are acid forming. When you read

, you can see that most of what is ingested are alkaline foods. This will cause fat loss. Simple as that. Grapefruit, especially the non-sweet version, is very alkaline forming. You can see this in

. Here are my thoughts on this: Grapefruit is as arbitrary as using Cucumber or Celery, or Romaine lettuce. It will do the same thing. As such it is a fad. It also opens the door to someone choosing grapefruit with a lot of sugar. There are grapefruits that do not have a lot of sugar and are not sweet. That is what should be used with this diet.
It is a cute diet and a great setup for a fad. But it could be better by a mile. There are so many nutrients missing, that it does not promote the anabolic side of nutrition. Just the catabolic side. It just breaks down. In an natural weight loss diet, you want to provide both a breakdown and a build up of healthy cells. A diet like this does not provide enough nutrients for a build up. If you want novelty go ahead and have fun with the grapefruit juice diet. My choice is to skip it and just stick to the greens and 90% to 100% liquid foods that do provide the nutrients your cells need to regenerate.
