Homeostasis and Natural Weight Loss
Your metabolism has a regulator. Because we live active lives and are subject to random events, imbalances occur. Another way of saying this is excess and deficiencies occur within the body. I've gone over nutrients, enzymes and the various parts of the metabolic process but the question now is what happens when there is an imbalance within the system? The same question goes for when there is an excess of something or a deficiency? There is a regulator that is alerted whenever the ideal balance is offset. This regulator is called "homeostasis". Homeostasis is defined as: "(physiology) The ability of a system or living organism to adjust its internal environment to maintain a stable equilibrium [from Greek: hómos, 'equal'; and istēmi, 'to stand' lit. 'to stand equally'] " | Human homeostasis refers to the body's ability to physiologically regulate its inner environment to ensure its stability in response to fluctuations in its external and internal environment. Every living organism has its optimum balance of components for optimum state of existence. Every organism is in a constant state of trying to create a stable, consistent environment. Life forms thrive is stable, constant environments. When there is an imbalance the organism will compensate for that imbalance. For example, if there is a deficiency of one vitamin or mineral, the body will compensate for it by getting it from another area of the body or reduce the use of that vitamin or mineral. Most apparent illnesses or unwanted conditions that people are trying to solve with their health are actually over-compensations created by some kind of imbalance. Excess fat is also a corrective measure taken by the body to compensate for both excesses and deficiencies. By taking care of the imbalances the excess fat is no longer needed. What are the internal components of homeostasis? - Concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide
- pH of the internal environment
- Concentration of nutrients and waste products
- Concentration of salt and other electrolytes
- Volume and pressure of extracellular fluid (extracellular fluid is the fluid that surrounds and bathes the cells)
These 5 points are the control points of one's metabolism. When any of these 5 points go out of balance the metabolism tries to correct it. In this correction, many side effects result. One of those side effects is excess fat! Homeostasis uses the nervous system of the body to monitor these 5 measurements throughout the 11 systems of the body: - Muscular system
- Skeletal system
- Integumentary system (also known as the skin system)
- Respiratory system
- Digestive system
- Circulatory system
- Immune system
- Excretory system
- Nervous system
- Endocrine system
- Reproductive system
Each of these systems uses the nerves to communicate back and forth to the brain to provide information on how each system is doing in keeping its optimum level of survival. As such, ANY imbalance in any system or if ANY of the five components of homeostasis goes out of balance, the metabolism of the organism alters to restore this imbalance. One of the things it does is decide what nutrients to use to restore balance. When it comes to fat loss and weight loss, we want to create and external and internal environment that prevents excess fat from being created and increases the development of your lean muscle. When it comes to fat loss and weight loss, we want to create and external and internal environment that prevents excess fat from being created, utilize excess fat for nourishment and increase lean muscle. By tailoring a nutrition program and an exercise program for your specific lifestyle and body, you can use your body's mechanisms to make dramatic changes to your body, weight and health. | What to Learn From This: Your body, its metabolism and the various systems are constantly trying to attain the highest level of living they can. There are complex and sophisticated systems that help it do that. With five monitors for homeostasis and eleven systems to monitor the health of various functions of the body, it is far easier to understand there is no one diet that works for everyone. To lose weight by losing fat, you have to be able to look at what is current state of imbalance and move towards an optimum. Second, with the body's ability to adapt to changing external and internal changes and imbalances, your nutritional needs will change and so will your physical needs to maintain optimal physical health. No matter what commercial diet you chose or what commercial exercise your chose, there will always be a point where it will stop working because your body has adapted through homeostasis to that environment. Also, it also explains why some diets and exercise plans to not work for others at all. They are too far or too much of a departure from what the body's homeostasis can adapt too. As a result, the extreme exertion and flux the body goes through (not to mention emotional flux) causes over acidity and then more fat is created to remove this excess acidity from the system.
