Hello,
I am 50years old and have not had a period for nealy two years - blood test revels I am menapausal. I am also type 2 diabetic and have hypthyroidism. I went on a very low carb, moderate protein but no fat diet and consumed energy pills in the form of thermogenics for energy. However this lead to a breakdown in my adrenals. Prior to this I had lost 20kgs and my AIC for bloods were 5.5 - which was excellent . However since I gave up smoking ( 1 year now) everything started to fall apart. In One year I have gained back the 20kgs, and my adrenals are shot. I Have been told I was undermedicated for hypothyroidism and am now on ARMOUR - 2 GRAINS. I have also tested for adrenal failure and have been give 10mg a day for hysone (hydrocortisone). Dr also gave me NHRT and melatotnin. He said that I also had metabolic syndrome.
After all this I am still gaining weight. I need help despartely to lose weight! I am unable to exercise like I used to cause I tire too quickly for have any real beneficial response.
Can you please help me ... I dont know what to eat etc. Also after being on NHRT for 3 weeks, I started ovulating again?? go figure what this all means.

Hello Donna,
Sadly, your story is a bit more common that it should be.
Here is are the basics. First I encourage you to do a Free Evaluation with me. When you request it I will send you a questionnaire to fill out. This will helpmeet find all the areas of breakdown (as far as your metabolism is concerned).
Without that my answers here will be a bit general.
If a person is not born with hypothyroidism and develops it later on in life, then there are a few reasons. It may be one of them or all of them.
There is toxicity, adrenal fatigue and/or excess estrogen (either cause by excessively low progesterone, excess toxicity, birth doctoral, or adrenal fatigue.
In most cases, when the adrenals are healed, the hypothyroidism goes away. I always focus on getting the adrenals stronger first.
This is a missing link in treating hypothyroidism. If your adrenals are weak, your will not be able to heal your hypothyroidism. THat is why medication is constantly needed.
So I would focus on the adrenals first. This alone is a whole process. Most people do not know all the different sources of stress one's body is under. So you have to find these sources of physical stress and remove them.
This can include infections, virus, lack of sleep, too much exercise, toxicity, lack of oxygen, malnutrition, etc.
I am willing to bet that is your way out. I have not seen medication terminatedly resolve the problem. It only makes the body need more medication.
There are a host of natural supplements to help restore the glands to a strong state.
For now, though, do not do any intense exercise. That will stress your body out. Do a search on my site for "max aerobic threshold" and exercise BELOW that heart rate.
As for what to eat, that will be beyond the scope of this forum. If you haven't bought my book, get it. I lay out how to adjust your diet to deal with adrenal fatigue. The second edition is coming out soon as well and that goes into more detail. All the purchasers of the original book will get the second edition emailed to them.
