Why Do I Gain Weight On Soy?

"Why Do I Gain Weight On Soy? Read This And Find Out Why ..."

I Gain Weight On Soy

Soy as a source of Estrogen

This includes soy milk as estrogen.

In the search to find healthier alternatives for diet and natural weight loss, Soy has come to the surface as a healthy alternative for getting protein and avoiding dairy and animal products.

Those looking to lose weight see soy as a low fat alternative food. There are ads that say something to the effect of "Soy Milk Weight Loss."

Reports of soy being consumed in Asia for centuries are reported together with the low incidence of illnesses in Asia compared to the US.

But this information and marketing of this food has skewed the facts and turned soy into something it is not.

Why Do I Gain Weight On Soy?

Soy is a Weight Gain Food.

Soy is estrogenic and increases estrogen in the body. This can create estrogen dominance which leads to weight gain.

Soy-fed infants have estrogen levels an average of seventeen thousand times higher than infants fed human or cow’s milk. This equates to the estrogen in 5 birth control pills a day. The epidemic rise in premature sexual development in 15% of Caucasian girls and and 50% of African American girls, reported in the cover article of the October 30, 2000 issue of Time magazine, may be directly attributable to the effect of soy formula. This is exactly the conclusion reached by a study of girls with premature breast and pubic hair growth in Puerto Rico.1

Estrogen also suppresses thyroid function and creates symptoms of hypothyroidism which is also another source of inability to lose weight.

Besides being estrogenic and causing hypothyroidism, it also has been shown to directly affect the thyroid.

Soy foods can suppress thyroid function. as little as 3-4 table spoons of soy per day is a powerful suppressant of thyroid function and lower your metabolic rate.2 This applies to all soy products.

Soy based infant formula poses such a risk that the health ministers of the UK and New Zealand have formally advised parents not to use soy formula.3

The fact that soy suppresses thyroid has been documented for 40 years.4

Soy eaters have high incidence of autoimmune thyroiditis.5

A common question is about South East Asians who eat a lot of Soy. Why are they so thin and have such low incidence of the common illnesses that plague the West?

The first thing that needs to be known is that soy consumption is not very high in the East. I grew up in South East Asia and there isn’t that much soy in the diet.

The other thing is that soy is one the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Together with corn, the soy that has been eaten in Asia for centuries was REAL soy. The soy we are eating now is genetically modified.

We don’t know the full effects of eating this GMO food because it has never been tested before it was released into the fields to be grown. If you are consuming Soy you are the test sybject.

Third, Most soy drinks are sweetened with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). HFCS is made from GMO corn. Also new to the population and we are not entirely sure what the health ramifications are to our health from its consumption.

Recent studies have shown that HFCS does in fact, create insulin resistance in rats.6

So lay off the Soy, until companies like Monsanto, are brought under tighter PUBLIC scrutiny, we cannot be sure about where our food really comes from.

So add soy to the list of foods to avoid if you are trying to lose weight.
