For long term weight loss and for people who cannot lose weight, a liver detox is an absolute must.

When we talk about a detox, whether it is a body detox, a detox diet, detox your body, or a raw food detox, the liver has an important part in this.

The reason why is because of hormones. There are many other reasons for health as well as weight loss, but the most powerful force that shapes and changes the body are hormones. If you control hormones you get more for your effort than anything else you can try to do to reshape your body and lose weight.

There are fat burning and anti-aging hormones and there are fat storing and aging hormones. All hormones have to pass through the liver.

The liver is like a oil filter for your car engine.

It catches the things in your body that are non-metabolizable and/or toxic. The liver catches these substances to prevent them from causing harm to other organs. The liver is also an intermediary for all hormones.

When the liver cannot do what it is supposed to do, a hormone imbalance occurs. The hormone imbalance can be small enough to not be troublesome or problematic but this can progress.

When trying to help someone restore their hormone balance for weight loss, the liver has to be allowed to be healthy.

Not everyone knows this but the liver is the only organ that can regrow to its original size and shape. If as much as seventy-five percent of the liver is cut off, it can grow back fully. I personally think this is a testament to its ruggedness as well as its importance.

When it comes to weight gain, there is a pivotal role of the liver. Instead of writing a lot about it here I want to show you a video.

Wasn't that enlightening?

If you have a large waist line or see people with "belly fat" you now have an "inside look" into what is happening.

When the liver gets fatty and this omentum grows. Once the omentum grows, pressure is added to the organs. This alone will alter the function of the organs. But also, the omentum becomes a gland in itself. It starts to secrete and alter the balance of hormones.

One of the things the omentum does is to convert testosterone to estrogen.

So for a man who is very overweight around the midsection, this adds a layer of fat storing power to his body since estrogen is a fat storing hormone.

But it gets worse. When men get testosterone converted to estrogen, they lose the benefit of the testosterone they produce. This lowers muscle mass, strength and drive. Additionally, they lose sex drive as a result of this conversion of testosterone to estrogen. This includes the inability to have erections. This leads to the diagnosis of erectile dysfunction.

So the point is that from the liver , many different problems can occur. Each unfortunately with a drug ready to be prescribed to reverse the symptoms.

The good news is that the liver is very rugged and can get healthy quickly. The omentum or visceral fat is also easier to reduce in relation to subcutaneous fat. There is a lot of blood flow to that area when there is exercise and in general so this assists the fat burning process in that area.

Using the nutritional, lifestyle, fitness and supplement guides I provide in Metabolism Makeover, you can steadily clean out your liver through a simple liver detox and see your body reshape itself.
