Psyllium
is Acidophilus probiotic work the same as psyllium? I have been taking this and wondered if it served the same purpose.
========
Thank you for asking that.
Acidophilus and psyllium are totally different things but they are both related to your digestive system.
Psyllium is an inexpensive and abundant fiber. Fiber is necessary for the entire digestive tract. It is especially important for the colon.
Fiber absorbs liquid. The foods that contain the most water are also the foods that have the most fiber.
If you get psyllium, and put it in water you will see it turn into a think gel. This happens inside your digestive tract.
Your colon needs more hydration than any other part of your digestive tract.
Taking psyllium on on empty stomach like before you go to bed or first thing in the morning, it will travel to the colon and start to reside there.
Inside the colon, fiber will not only absorb water and hydrate your colon, it will also absorb toxic waste matter.
Acidophilus is a probiotic. In your digestive tract, especially the colon, contains bacteria. there is harmful bacteria and there is beneficial bacteria. Probiotics are bacteria that are beneficial. They aid in the digestive process and in nutrient assimilation.
Antibiotics, some birth control, stress, poor diet and many other factors kill good bacteria. This causes an imbalance where the harmful bacteria will overgrow.
Adding back good bacteria restores a healthy balance of bacteria.
