Quick Weight Loss Intro
This Quick Weight Loss page is a page I am almost hesitant to write and publish on my site because it connotes so much that I am against. Just like many of us feel jaded about getting rich quick, I feel jaded about losing weight quick. In essence it means sacrificing health for weight loss. It never works. Right and Wrong Reasons
I feel people look for quick weight loss for the wrong reasons. What are the right reasons? I’ll give you an example. A 32-year-old woman who developed type 1 diabetes. She became depressed and her body fat escalated to such proportions that the doctor said she was in line for serious surgery if she did not lose this weight. This is a good reason to lose weight quick. There is another reason, in my humble opinion. Because if it is done right, it takes a person into a new echelon of health quickly and with less pain and discomfort. By getting a person’s body rewired to a younger metabolism suddenly, it creates a lot of internal and chemical momentum that makes it easier for me to get a person set for life with a new metabolism. Quick Weight Loss The Healthy Way
To have quick weight loss the natural and healthy way, there are a few things that need to be done. Realize that what worked to cause quick weight loss cannot be continued indefinitely in most cases. There is a point where it needs to end. There is a point where the weight loss will taper off. That is the sign that the program needs to change. The body has changed. So the program needs to change. If you keep forcing it, then you are losing muscle and not fat and water. Four Kinds of Weight Loss
You see, in weight loss there are 4 kinds of weight. - Water weight loss
- Fat loss
- Muscle loss
- Bone Density Loss
Bone density loss is not a factor with most trying to lose weight. The first weight loss plateau comes when the water weight loss is complete. The person will experience relief, lightness, clear-headedness, and a reduction of measurements and the weight will drop. This is good quick weight loss. Usually I expect 20 – 30 pounds of healthy weight loss. A lot of the toxic and acidic liquids that surround and bathe the cells (called interstitial liquid) are released and replaced with fresh clean liquid that helps the cells do better. The healthy way to do this phase is through a juice diet/weight loss juice diet as a detox and then moving to a raw diet with high moisture foods after that. This works because of the hydration of the cells. I talk about this in
"Drink Water to Lose Weight"
The Weight Loss Plateau
But it is when this water loss ends that the weight seems to plateau. This is where someone with the right intentions and the right plan goes off the rails. They get discouraged because they stopped losing “weight”. This plateau stage is crucial. The first stage was a detox. It allowed the body to breathe once again. Now, it is in a regeneration stage. It is rebuilding. It is going through the catabolic process of breaking down body fat and the anabolic process of building new cells. This is why my clients report dramatic changes in their appearance. It is not just weight. It is a total transformation of appearance. This is because you are not just removing fat and unnecessary toxic liquids from the body. You are building a new body. It is at this point where muscle growth is inevitable. It is needed. Using something like a juice diet or juicing for weight loss diet, your muscles are finally getting the nutrition they need after years of starvation. Regeneration/Rebuilding Phase
So at this stage of regeneration, muscle is growing and body fat is decreasing. It is at this stage that body fat starts to decrease the most. The problem is that the scale does not show it. You can gain one pound of muscle and lose one pound of fat and feel like a loser. I see this all the time with people who are using the scale as the sole determinant of their weight loss success. That is why
"Fat Loss vs. Weight Loss"
is one of the first pages I put on this site. Just using a scale will cave most people in because it does not show enough. Fat creating hormones I write about in
"Fat Loss vs. Weight Loss"
I show what to measure, together with weight, to get a complete picture. Prevent the Yo-Yo Effect
Sometimes I have to repeat this so many times to a client. They come to me sad and despondent saying they have not lost weight. But I look at the daily report and throughout the period they have not lost “weight,” their measurements are decreasing and their body fat % is decreasing. Even when I point this out to them, it takes a while to be released from the grip of this crazy number – their body weight. The reason why people go off the rails on this second phase is that the loss of body weight in the first phase was so awesome for them and they want this feeling to continue. If what they did up to this point was healthy, they now start to get unhealthy by starving themselves in the hope that the “weight” will continue to drop. The only way to keep the body weight decreasing at this point is to lose muscle mass! However, This is the regeneration phase. Muscle mass should be increasing and fat should be decreasing. When a person gets so desperate they start starving themselves to lose muscle weight, they reach a critical point where they and their body can’t take it anymore. The metabolism has slowed down so much. Fat creating hormones I write about in
"Hormones and Weight Gain"
are flooding their blood. The body loses its ability to burn fat. Then they officially yo-yo with their weight now. They rebound and balloon out. But it is worse now. Because the muscle mass has decreased, the fat percentage now has increased. So the person has less muscle than before, regained their water weight and has more fat than before.
Your Weight Loss Program Needs to Change as Your Body ChangesSo the moral of the story is to continue with a different program at this stage and you have to monitor your fat loss and your measurements now. There is nothing wrong with gaining muscle. It feels incredible to have a lot of growth hormone in your system. Growth hormone is what is causing this muscle growth. The "Bulky Look" Myth
But I can hear what you are going to say next, “But, Yegyan if I gain muscle I am going to look bulky.” MYTH! muscle will not make you look bulky. Water-retention makes you look bulky. Muscle makes your body shape more flattering. It defines your body parts and the definition takes attention away from the outline and that makes you less bulky looking. Healthy weight loss will always cause muscle definition and good body shape and make you look less bulky. The regeneration phase will end when the body has restored its health and balance. Then the next thing to focus on is continued fat loss until the goal is met. During this phase, your macro-nutrients can be used in greater quantity because the cells and nervous system can break them down faster. The body is stronger and faster. Basically, it is younger. Summary
So to summarize, there is nothing wrong with quick weight loss if it is taken in context and done in a healthy way. It needs to be followed up with a program that keeps the health stable after the benefits of the quick weight loss program have maxed out. If the next program is not healthy and does not adapt to the changing body, you will yo-yo. This is what you should avoid at all costs. So with this data, you will have a better idea of how to evaluate a "Quick Weight Loss" Program.
