Resistance Training Intro

Define "Resistance"

Let’s define it first so we know what we are talking about. Resistance exercise is any exercise where the focus in on exerting force against a resistance. It is designed to stimulate a certain muscle group. It is performed with a certain number of repetitions. Running, for example, is not considered a resistance exercise. Doing push-ups are considered a resistance exercise because the weight of the body being pushed up is a resistance against the chest muscles and the triceps muscles. You usually do it for a certain number of repetitions. With running you run for a certain distance or period of time.

Weight lifting is resistance training but the reverse is not true. To learn about weight training, you can go to the “Weight Training” page. There are a lot of exercises you can do that will be a resistance exercise that do not use weights.

However, if you continue to do resistance exercises without equipment, and if you do it correctly, you will get stronger and you will need to get some Resistance Training Equipment to keep the success going.
