Thyroxine
and
Weight Loss

Thyroxine is one of the hormones created by the thyroid and is another one of the powerful hormones that burn fat.

It is also called tetraiodothyronine (T4), main hormone secreted by the thyroid gland. The function of this and the other thyroid hormone, triiodothyronine (T3), is to increase the cellular rate of carbohydrate metabolism and of protein synthesis and breakdown.

Increases Energy Expenditure

This hormone makes the cells use more energy per unit of time. The energy factories in each cell called mitochondria, produce energy molecules that store energy for your use when needed. This hormone makes the mitochondria larger and making more of them. Like I talk about in "Energy Balance" “Energy Balance”, if energy is not being used in the cells, it does not look for more fuel. That means that the food you eat is not used for fuel, so it gets stored as fat. By getting cells to “spend” more energy molecules it creates a greater demand for energy and the nervous system gets the food you eat AND the fat stores on your body and uses that for the energy stores in your cells.

Exercise

The most practical way to increase an increase in thyroxine is regular exercise as outlined in "Best Exercise To Lose Weight" . Exercise stimulates the production of this thyroid hormone. However, you do not want to over-exercise as that stimulates the other group of hormones that shut down these powerful fat-burning hormones and cause the storage of fat.

There are other ways to stimulate thyroxine. They all revolve around removing the barriers to healthy thyroid function.

Heal the Glands

Healthy thyroid function is related to multiple factors. First is the liver. The liver is the main gland that stimulates the function of the thyroid. Detoxing and removing foods that tax the liver is a good step to take when you can afford a few days of rest.

Juice Fast

Doing a juice fast with a liquid diet of raw juices and vegetable broths for a few days or even a week with a lot of rest will help detox the body. Toxins, especially chemical toxins are one of the inhibitors to normal glandular function.

One of the best ways to restore healthy liver function is to go on a juice fast. It takes the pressure off the liver completely. And if the juice fast is done with raw foods that include cruciferous vegetables and beets, it also enhances the healing of the liver.

Sauna

Sauna use is also a good practice for detox. Stimulating sweat will help eliminate and clean the system as well. Second to exhaling, sweating is one of the primary ways the body rids itself of toxic matter[2]. You must make sure that you are dong it as part of a supervised regimen and are hydrating your self with the proper minerals as I talk about in "Drink Water To Lose Weight".
